#5 Artificial Nature by Jingyi Wang

Wang says that cacti are essentially creatures, Nature’s. By using the robust and independent character of cacti, the artists hope to express how humans influence the earth and the environment. The cast shadows on the blue, purple, green and blue background represent a different picture in which cactus has grown in an unimaginative, unnatural environment.

Are acrylic paintings valuable?

Acrylic paintings can be very valuable, depending on the artist and the painting itself. Acrylics are a relatively new type of paint, so there aren’t as many old masters paintings done in acrylics. However, there are some very famous contemporary artists who love to use acrylics, such famous artists as Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. If an acrylic painting is by a well-known artist, it can be quite valuable. However, even if it’s not by a famous artist, an acrylic painting can still be worth a lot of money if it’s a particularly good example of the genre or if it has an interesting story behind it.

Is acrylic a fine art?

The debate over whether acrylic paint is fine art or not has been ongoing for decades now. On one hand, some traditionalists in the art world have argued that it is too synthetic and manufactured to be deemed as ‘fine art’. But on the other side of the argument, contemporary artists use acrylic paints to create stunning works of art every day. So, who’s right? Is acrylic paint considered a valid form of fine art or not?

To answer this question, let’s explore the history of acrylic paint and how it has developed over time. In its beginnings, back in the 1930s, acrylic paint was created by German chemists to be used in house paints and industrial finishes. Since then however, there have been significant improvements in how these types of pigments are created, making them more vibrant and intense colors than ever before. This has allowed artists to achieve richness and depth of color which had previously been impossible with oil paintings – thus making it an increasingly popular choice for many painters today.

One common misconception about acrylic painting is that it is easy to learn compared to other forms of painting such as oil or watercolor. However, although it may appear easier at first sight due its lack of smell or hazardous chemicals – learning how to use it properly requires dedication like any other type of fine art. It takes time mastering the techniques so that you can accurately convey what you want when applying acrylic paints – but once learned they provide beautiful textures and effects which can make your artwork stand out from others.

Acrylic paints also tend to be less expensive than oil paintings since they require fewer materials and supplies than traditional painting media. This makes them accessible for budget-conscious artists who want to create quality artwork without spending a fortune on supplies – but still end up with gallery worthy pieces in the end!

Finally, because acrylic paint dries quickly after being applied onto canvas – there is no need for long waiting times between layers as with oils or watercolours. This means that you can work faster and complete more pieces within a shorter period of time – further increasing its accessibility amongst aspiring fine artists everywhere!

So to conclude: yes – acrylic paint can definitively be considered a valid form of modern fine art! Through advancements in technology and pigmentation over the years -it has become increasingly popular amongst both hobbyists and professional painters alike due its affordability, fast drying time, light enough – and ability to produce stunning works with vivid colors and textures!

Acrylic Paint

Acrylic paints are a popular medium for artistic expression, and they can bring a unique luminosity to artwork. Acrylics offer a wide range of painting techniques and finishes. One of the advantages of acrylics is that they dry quickly, allowing you to add multiple layers in a short amount of time. Acrylics also make it easier to blend colors and create new shades by combining existing colors. Additionally, acrylic paints have a high degree of flexibility when it comes to application; with different paintbrushes, sponges, and other tools, you can create textures from smooth lines to three-dimensional effects.

When working with acrylic paints, there are several techniques you can use to achieve the desired effect. For instance, wet blending is an excellent way to mix colors while adding transparency or blending two colors together seamlessly. Dry brushing is another technique used to give your paintings texture and depth. For example, try using a stiff brush on both wet paint and dried areas for more contrast in the piece.

Acrylic artist

Acrylic paints are a versatile and popular medium for artists of all levels. Whether you’re a beginner, professional, or somewhere in between, acrylics can create stunning results. Here we’ll cover some tips on how to optimize your acrylic painting for a professional look.

First, you should prepare your canvas or surfaces with gesso primer and sand it before beginning your painting. This will help to create a smooth surface that makes it easy to layer and blend colors. Additionally, pre-stretch your canvas if you’re using one so that it doesn’t warp while wet with paint.

Use quality brushes and materials when creating your artwork as this will ensure better performance and longevity of the piece. Cheap or low quality supplies can leave behind unwanted textures, particles, or streaks in the paint which will make the finished piece appear unprofessional. Spend some extra money on good quality brushes especially as they are an integral part of the painting process.

Painting: What is Painting Definition – Eden Gallery

What Is Painting?

As art has shifted and evolved, the notion of painting has become somewhat abstract – though it can still be seen as an act or process to apply paint or color. Artists have grown more creative in their use of tools such as sponges, spray cans and knives; this alteration only further blurs our definition of the term painting describes what a ‘painting’ is traditionally known to be. A result from said action creates artwork often referred to by viewers simply as ‘a painting’ but also serves functional purpose when used for protective finishes on surfaces like walls, furniture and canvas among other things. The Origin of Painting

The Origin of Painting

Painting has long existed in our minds as an expressive form of art. Most ancient paintings are some 40,000-years of age. Several ancient paintings of Neolithic age are found in cave walls. The prehistoric painting of caves has appeared in western Europe and Indonesia. Nevertheless, paintings remain part of the history and culture of the country. The cave drawings were very basic and the original artist could just use some colors. These cave paintings have long been considered more informative than they do for the art historians telling stories.

Painting Techniques

Over the last century paintings have evolved into a broad array of techniques encompassing a variety of artistic forms. These paintings may be traditional, but others can be unconventional. Painting techniques generally don’t depend on material but rather on the technique by which paint is applied. Although most painting styles or techniques are categorized by material, most contemporary painting styles are defined by length and direction in strokes and mixing colors. Some of today’s paintings have also used several techniques in their creation. The paintings “flowers on black” by Angela Accardi use acrylic and oil.

The Common Painting Techniques Are

Artists continue creating art styles. Mixed media digital art, works and 3D artwork push the boundaries of traditional painting.

There are a few different painting techniques that are commonly used in order to create different effects. Some of these common techniques include things like using a dry brush, glazing, wet on wet painting, and impasto.

Dry brush painting is achieved by using a brush that has very little paint on it. This results in a more textured and rough look. Glazing is done by painting a thin layer of color over an already existing layer of paint in order to create depth or change the color. Wet on wet painting is pretty much what it sounds like- painting on top of a still wet surface. This technique can create some pretty cool effects, like blurred lines or mixing of colors. Impasto is when you use a lot of paint so that it stands up off the surface- think of paintings with really thick and textured strokes.

Knowing some of these common painting techniques can help you to create the exact look and feel that you want for your own paintings!

Painting

As a form of expression in the visual arts, painting has long been an integral part of humanity’s creative output. With various art mediums like brushes, knives and even airbrushes serving as tools for customizing surfaces such as walls, canvas or wood with color and texture that ranges from pigment to paper collage – paintings offer imaginative possibilities full of possibility. Drawing on traditional elements like composition and gesture alongside modern takes on other artistic composition methodologies makes this practice unique among other forms within the visual artsHow do you explain a painting?

What is basic painting?

Artist’s Blog: When talking about art, the mind of a lot of folks first think about painting. Paintings represent the most widely known artwork of all time. However as art evolved into mixed media and digital artwork the definition relating to the term painting became blurry. Painting means applying paint or other materials to a solid surface — usually an oil painting surface. Paint or other colors are commonly used on paint brushes. Artists use different tools, namely sponges, spray paint and knife.

What do you call a painting?

A painting is a work of art that is created through the use of pigments on a surface. The word “painting” can refer to both the act of creating the work, as well as the finished product. There are many different types of paintings, including oil paintings, watercolor paintings, and acrylic paintings.

What are three types of painting?

Painting is a form of art that has been around for centuries and has evolved over time, with different types of painting being used to express one’s creativity. There are three main types of painting; oil, acrylic, and watercolor. In this blog post, we’ll explore each type in more detail and discuss their unique characteristics.

Oil painting is a classic medium that has been used for centuries by some of the world’s most famous artists. It involves mixing pigments with linseed oil or other oils to create a paste-like substance which is then applied to canvas or board. Oil paint produces vibrant colors and bold strokes, making it an ideal choice for realism in artworks. The drying time can take up to weeks depending on the thickness of the paint layers used.

Acrylic painting uses pigments suspended in a liquid acrylic polymer emulsion which is then applied to canvas or paper. Acrylic paints dry quickly, so they are often favored by those who like to work quickly or want to complete their artwork in one sitting. Their colors are very vivid and bright when wet but will gradually fade over time as the paint dries out. Acrylics are also easier to remove from surfaces than oil paints if mistakes are made while working on your artwork.

Watercolor painting is a versatile medium that involves using transparent washes of pigment on paper or other absorbent surfaces such as wood or fabric. This type of painting often yields softer results than either oil or acrylic paint due to its semi-transparent nature, however it can be used for both subtle detailing and bold blocks of color depending on how thickly it is applied. Watercolors tend to mix easily with one another so they can be blended into beautiful gradients and subtle blends of color within your artwork.

No matter what type of painting you choose, each has its own unique characteristics and can offer something special when creating works of art. Whether you’re looking for realism with oils, quickness with acryllics, or subtlety with watercolors – all three types action painting will provide you with endless possibilities for creative exploration!

The Art of Expressing Yourself Through Painting

Painting is an art form that has been around for centuries. It not only allows you to express yourself creatively, but also helps build discipline and gives you the tools to create something tangible. Whether it’s abstract art, watercolor, oil painting or any other type of painting, the possibilities are endless in what you can create.

When describing painting, it’s important to consider the various aspects of the art form. In terms of technique, there are a variety of styles and approaches—from realism to impressionism—that allow artists to express themselves in different ways. Color is also an important factor in any type of painting. Many artists select colors deliberately to evoke emotion or mood; this can be done through the use of vivid hues or complementary colors. Texture is another aspect that can greatly influence a painting’s overall look and feel; this could include thick brushstrokes, soft feathery lines, or anything else that gives each piece its unique quality.

The process of actually creating a work of art is also a crucial part of expressing yourself through painting. Drawing on canvas involves planning out your composition before beginning; this means deciding on where elements will be located in relation to one another on the page. Once this is done, it comes down to using different materials such as brushes, paint and palette knives—each with their own set of techniques—to bring your idea into fruition.

One way to get inspired when starting out with painting is by studying great works from both past and present masters. This doesn’t mean simply copying their work though; instead it should guide you in developing your own style which reflects who you are as an artist and how you want your artwork to be perceived by others. Researching techniques used by these painters can help immensely as well; many times they will have left detailed notes about their methods which can then be adapted according to one’s needs and preferences while working on a project.

Overall, describing painting is ultimately about expressing yourself through visual storytelling—capturing emotions and feelings in a way words alone cannot do justice; there’s no right or wrong way when it comes to creating art either so don’t hesitate to experiment with different ideas until you find something that speaks volumes about your life and who you are!

attic, room, window

What to paint when painting.

There are many factors to consider, such as the size of the room, the light, the furniture, and the mood you want to create. However, with a little planning and forethought, you can choose the perfect paint color for your space. Size: The first thing to consider is the size of the room. If you have a large room, you can be more adventurous with your color choices. However, if you have a small room, you may want to stick to lighter colors to make the space feel larger. Light: The amount of natural light in a room will also affect your color choices. If a room gets a lot of light, you may want to opt for lighter colors to prevent the space from feeling too bright. Conversely, if a room doesn’t get much natural light, you may want to choose darker colors to make it feel more cozy. Furniture: Another factor to consider is the furniture in the room. If you have dark furniture, you may want to choose lighter colors for the walls so that the space doesn’t feel too heavy. Alternatively, if you have light-colored furniture, you may want to choose darker colors for the walls to create a more dramatic look. Mood: Finally, think about the mood you want to create in the space. If you want a calm and serene environment, you may want to choose softer colors. However, if you want a more energetic atmosphere, brighter colors may be more appropriate.

Do paintings have meaning?

Paintings have been around for centuries, and continue to be one of the most popular forms of art. But what do they actually mean? Is there more to a painting or artistic composition than meets the eye?

Most people would say that paintings are simply a way to express oneself. But there is actually a lot more to it than that. Paintings can be seen as a reflection of one’s soul. They can be used to communicate messages and emotions that words cannot express.

Paintings can also be seen as a way to connect with other people. When you look at a painting, you are seeing the world through the artist’s eyes. You are seeing their interpretation of the world around them. This can be a powerful way to connect with others, and to understand their point of view.

In short, paintings can have a great deal of meaning. They can be used to communicate, to connect, and to understand.

What are the 3 types of art?

The world of art has many different types and styles, each with its own unique characteristics. In this blog post, we’ll explore the three major categories of art: representational, abstract, and non-representational.

Representational art seeks to accurately portray a physical object, subject matter or scene. Representational artwork is often realistic in nature and employs techniques such as shading and perspective to create an illusion of depth and three-dimensionality. Many famous works from renowned painters such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci are examples of representational art.

Abstract art uses elements such as color, line, shape, texture and composition to create a work that explores the artist’s emotions rather than simply depicting a physical reality. Abstract artwork often relies heavily on the artist’s imagination and interpretation to give the viewer insight into their internal experience of art world. Famous abstract artists include Pablo Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky.

Non-representational art does not seek to depict any physical object or scene but instead uses color, line, shape, texture and composition to create personal expression without representing anything from the outside world. This type of artwork often reveals something about the inner self or expresses a certain emotion rather than producing a likeness of any particular thing in nature or reality. Jackson Pollock is widely recognized for his work in non-representational painting techniques like drip painting.

When creating a painting project of your own it is important to decide which type of art you would like to pursue – representational, abstract, or non-representational – based on your individual preferences and goals for your artwork. Each artistic style comes with its own unique set of creative challenges so understanding these distinctions can help you make an informed decision when beginning a new piece of painted artwork!

How To Choose A Perfect Paint Color | Undertones & Lighting

So you’ve decided to add a new layer of color and vibrancy to your home with the help of paint. Congratulations! Choosing the right shade is important as it sets the tone for the entire room, so take your time when considering all of your options. Here are some tips on how to choose a perfect paint color that fits both your style and budget:

1. Consider Undertones: Always make sure you consider any underlying tones in a color before committing. A good rule of thumb is to go two shades lighter than what you think looks best in order to see the undertone more clearly. Rich, vibrant colors like blues, greens and purples often have undertones such as grey or yellow, so be sure to check the swatch before buying.

2. Factor in Lighting: Lighting has a huge effect on how your chosen paint color will look throughout the day, so it’s important to consider this when selecting a shade. Natural light is especially transformative, so if you have large windows or skylights, be sure to test out different colors during the day and night to get an accurate reading of which one looks best!

3. Ask for Samples: If you’re still not sure about a color, ask your local hardware store for samples so you can try them out at home. This gives you the chance to see how they look with different pieces of furniture and art in order to make an informed decision.

Finally, don’t be afraid to experiment with happy colors! We recently renovated our office in Rhode Island, and we chose a bright green color called “Happy Trees” which has been such an amazing addition to the space. How many coats of paint does the exterior of a house need?

The exterior of a house needs at least two coats of paint to achieve the desired look and protection from the elements. The first coat should be applied to seal any bare wood, fill any cracks or gaps, and protect against moisture damage. From there, an additional coat of paint should be applied for optimal coverage and protection. Depending on the quality of the paint used, you may need more than two coats for the best coverage, especially if you are using cheaper-quality paint.

When painting the exterior of your home, it is important to pick a high-quality paint that will resist fading and wear over time. It’s also a good idea to use a primer or sealer before applying your topcoat in order to provide extra protection from the elements. Additionally, it is recommended that you use a semi-gloss finish on trim areas such as windowsills, doors, and other areas that may be easily exposed to rain or wind.

Quality Painting on your Exterior

You can also choose colors that work with your roofing material: light colors can reflect heat while dark colors absorb it; lighter colors are better for covering up imperfections while darker colors provide more depth; and colors that contrast with your roof can help accentuate the architecture of your home. Finally, depending on how much sun exposure your home gets, you may want to consider using an acrylic finish which provides excellent color retention over time due to its self-cleaning characteristics.

Exterior Painting After Rain: The Basics

The drying point of the paint is determined by the rain. Industry experts suggest varying times, and generally the common metric is to wait to dry the material first for several hours. You need as much time as you can to keep your exterior surfaces “full dry”. The extended amount of time will allow for a flat surface such as a nailhole or crack in siding to be thoroughly dried out, moisture-free and water-resistant and prevent blemishes on paint. Temperature and humidity can affect the dryness of the surface in your region. More.

How much does it cost to paint a house in Rhode Island?

Can you haggle with painters?

Generally the professional contractor knows how long the job would be and how much the project might cost them. It also means there’s little or no room for compromise. Money Magazine Money.com has an “experts” section in which people ask them to discuss your project.

What happens if you paint after rain?

Dry weather is the biggest problem with the painting. Rain can dry out wet paint on surfaces but it is not absorbed by wet paint. When rain falls outside, paint is wiped away when it is not drying. It’s important to keep it away from rainy days.

Free Price Estimates from Local Painters

Are you planning a painting project for your residential or commercial building? A fresh coat of paint not only enhances the aesthetics but also offers additional benefits. It can reduce signs of aging, increase property valuation, and create more welcoming surroundings.

But how much does it cost to hire a professional painter? On average, a basic paint job can cost $20-50 per hour while special works like murals can go up to $100 an hour. While there may be little room for negotiation with professional contractors, you can always get free price estimates from local painters before starting your project.

One common question people have is whether they should paint trim or walls first. When preparing interiors for paint, it’s important to start with the ceilings and then move on to the walls. Taping off trims can become more expensive than taping off walls if done improperly.

For exterior painting projects, here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly before painting
  2. Repair any cracks or damage on the surface
  3. Choose high-quality paints that are suitable for the climate in your area
  4. Use proper equipment such as brushes and rollers
  5. Consider hiring a professional painter for complex projects

In conclusion, investing in a quality paint job can provide impressive benefits for your building’s aesthetics and value. Contact local painters for free price estimates and ensure that you follow proper guidelines when starting your project.

When it comes to painting your home or business, hiring a professional painting company is essential to ensure quality workmanship and a stunning outcome. But with so many painting contractors out there, how do you choose the right one? Here are some tips for hiring local painters in Rhode Island:

Look for Experience and Expertise

Before hiring a painting team, make sure they have experience with both interior and exterior projects. Ask about their techniques and equipment, as well as the types of paints they use. A professional painting contractor should be able to provide guidance on colors and finishes that will work best for your space.

A reputable painter should be happy to provide references from previous clients. Take the time to check out their online reviews as well. Look for comments about the quality of their work, professionalism, and customer service.

A fresh coat of paint can transform any surface, but it won’t last if proper prep work isn’t done first. Make sure your painter takes the time to clean surfaces thoroughly, repair any aged paint or older wood areas, and prime before starting the paint application process.

Direct sunlight can affect drying time and cause issues with paint application. Rainy weather can also impact the drying process. Plan your painting work during sunny days when possible, and wait until surfaces are fully dry before applying a second coat or doing touch-ups.

Painting kitchen cabinets or ceilings requires specific techniques and expertise. It’s best to hire professionals who have experience with these types of projects to ensure quality results.

By following these tips for hiring local painters in Rhode Island, you’ll be on your way to a beautifully painted space! Remember to communicate openly with your painter throughout the process so that any concerns can be addressed promptly.

Are you planning to give your home or business a fresh coat of paint? Whether it’s an exterior or interior painting project, there are a few things you should keep in mind to ensure that the finished product is top-notch. Here are some tips to help you achieve a successful painting project in Rhode Island.

One of the most important steps in any painting project is choosing the right painters for the job. Look for local professional painting companies with experience and expertise in both interior and exterior painting projects. Make sure they use high-quality paints and materials, and have a team of skilled painters who can deliver quality workmanship.

Before you start painting, make sure your surfaces are properly prepared. This includes cleaning any dirt or grime off of exterior walls or siding, as well as sanding down any older wood surfaces that might be rough or aged. For interior projects, prep work may include washing walls or ceilings to remove dirt or stains, and sanding down kitchen cabinets before applying paint.

Use High-Quality Paints

When it comes to paint selection, choose high-quality acrylic or latex paints from a reputable paint store. These types of paints will last longer than cheaper alternatives and provide better coverage with fewer coats needed. Be sure to choose the right type of paint for your project – for example, use exterior paints on outdoor surfaces that will be exposed to direct sunlight and rain.

Proper application techniques are essential for achieving a smooth finish without brush marks or other imperfections. Use roller covers designed for your specific surface type (such as smooth vs textured), and apply two coats of paint with ample drying time between each coat. Avoid cutting corners by rushing through the process – take your time to ensure proper coverage and wait until each coat is fully dry before adding another.

Monitor Weather Conditions

Weather conditions can affect the success of your painting project. Avoid starting an exterior project during rainy weather or when humidity levels are high – this can impact adhesion and cause peeling later on. Instead, aim for sunny days with mild temperatures (between 50-85 degrees Fahrenheit) when possible.

Once your painting work is complete, allow ample time for drying before touching up any areas that may need it. For best results, wait at least 24 hours after the final coat has been applied before allowing anyone to touch it (or hanging anything on newly painted walls). If possible, wait even longer before exposing newly painted surfaces to moisture such as rain or humidity.

By following these tips, you can achieve a successful painting project in Rhode Island that looks great and lasts longer. Contact a professional painting contractor today to learn more about their techniques and services!

Painting your home is an affordable and effective way to give it a fresh look and feel. But did you know that there are also several other benefits to painting your home? Here are five ways that painting can make a big impact in your living space.

1. Boosts Curb Appeal

The exterior of your home is the first thing people see when they visit, so why not make a great first impression with a freshly painted exterior? A new coat of paint can instantly improve the curb appeal of your home, making it stand out in the neighborhood and potentially increasing its value.

Paint not only makes surfaces look better, but it also provides protection against wear and tear. Exterior paints protect against weather damage like rain, wind and sun exposure, while interior paints can protect walls from scratches, scuffs and stains.

The colors you choose for your interior walls can have a big impact on the mood of each room. For example, cool blues and greens can create a calming atmosphere in bedrooms or bathrooms, while bright yellows or oranges can add energy to kitchens or playrooms.

If you’re planning to sell your home in the future, a fresh coat of paint can help increase its resale value. Neutral colors like beige or gray are popular choices among buyers because they create a blank slate for potential homeowners to envision their own decor.

Believe it or not, painting your home can actually save you money in the long run! By protecting surfaces from damage caused by moisture or UV rays, regular painting maintenance can help prevent costly repairs down the line.

In conclusion, painting your home has many benefits beyond just aesthetics. Whether you’re looking to boost curb appeal or protect surfaces from damage over time, investing in regular painting maintenance is worth considering for any homeowner.

Painting can be a great way to freshen up the look of your home or business, but it can also be a daunting task. Whether you’re looking for professional painters or planning to do the job yourself, there are many factors to consider in order to ensure a successful painting project. In this blog post, we’ll explore some tips and best practices for achieving great results.

If you’re not experienced in painting, hiring professional painters can save you time, stress and ensure quality workmanship. Professionals have access to high-quality materials and tools that may not be readily available to the average homeowner. They will also handle all aspects of the job from prep work to cleanup.

Choosing the right paint is crucial for achieving optimal results in your painting project. Acrylic paint is ideal for exterior surfaces as it holds up well against direct sunlight and moisture. For interior walls, latex paint is an excellent choice due to its durability and ease of cleaning. Always purchase high-quality paints from reputable stores.

Preparation work is essential before starting any painting project. This includes washing exterior siding or interior walls, scraping off aged paint, filling holes or gaps on older wood surfaces and sanding down rough areas. Proper prep work ensures that the new paint adheres well and provides long-lasting coverage.

The weather conditions play a vital role in ensuring a successful painting project. Avoid painting on rainy days as moisture can affect the drying process leading to poor adhesion and peeling later on. Direct sunlight during summer months can make freshly painted surfaces dry too quickly leading to cracks or bubbles forming on the surface.

Applying two coats of paint ensures proper coverage and longevity of your newly painted surface. Allow each coat sufficient time (at least 24 hours) before applying another coat. Use roller covers that have been approved by your painter or manufacturer for best results.

Cutting corners will only lead to poor quality workmanship which will ultimately ruin your entire painting project’s look and feel. Take time with meticulous attention during every step of the process from prep work through final touch-ups.

Allow sufficient drying time between coats and after your final coat has been applied before touching up any spots missed earlier on in your painting project.

In conclusion, whether you’re hiring professional painters or doing it yourself, following these tips and best practices will help ensure a successful outcome for your next painting project!

Are you planning to give your home a fresh new look? Perhaps you’re tired of the aged paint on your exterior walls or you want to update the color of your interior ceiling. Whatever your reason may be, starting a painting project can be exciting yet daunting.

To ensure quality workmanship and achieve the best possible results, it’s important to hire professional painters. A local professional painting company can provide expert advice on paint selection, techniques, and prep work. They have the experience and knowledge to handle any painting project with ease.

When it comes to exterior projects, direct sunlight can affect paint application. It’s best to start painting early in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is not at its peak. Make sure that the entire house is shaded during the drying process to avoid uneven drying or discoloration.

Before applying a second coat of paint, make sure that the first coat is fully dry. Roller covers are great for larger surfaces while brushes are ideal for smaller areas such as kitchen cabinets or trim work. Don’t cut corners when it comes to prep work as this greatly affects the outcome of your painting project.

Choosing acrylic paint over latex paint is recommended for newly painted surfaces as it dries faster and has better resistance against moisture and humidity. However, if you’re repainting an older wood surface, latex paint is more suitable as it allows for expansion and contraction due to changes in temperature and moisture.

During sunny days, touch-ups can easily be spotted as they dry differently compared to when done on cloudy days. Wait until the next day before making any touch-ups or corrections. If rain is expected within 24 hours after painting, cover newly painted surfaces with plastic sheets until fully dry.

Interior painting requires less attention to weather conditions but proper ventilation should be ensured during the drying process. Allow at least a full day before reapplying a second coat of paint or before waiting for painter wall moisture levels to subside.

In conclusion, achieving quality workmanship in your painting project involves hiring professional painters from a reputable company who use high-quality paints and techniques suited for specific surfaces and conditions. Proper prep work, application process, and drying time are also crucial factors in ensuring that your newly painted surface looks fresh and lasts longer.

If you need more ideas on how to improve your home through painting or want some advice on which type of paints are best suited for specific projects, contact a trusted local professional painting company today!.

A helpful illustrated guide to why painters back roll in Rhode island

Why Do Painters Backroll?

Exterior house paint in Rhode Island is applied in two ways: Spray only or spray and backroll. What is backrolling? Applying paint by sprayer and then using a paint roller to, in theory, push paint into small openings.

And what about just brushing paint? Well, you could brush an entire house, but that hasn’t happened in over 50 years.

So with only two options, one of the most common questions we get is “How does Happy Trees painting apply paint”

There are a range of opinions on this, but understanding the factors involved can help homeowners make the best decision.

On a breezy Rhode Island summer day the paint can easily “skin over” before it is backrolled, especially of the person rolling is busy moving ladders or drop cloths.

Spray-only

An even, consistent paint film will give a home the longest-lasting protection from weather, UV and yes, bird poop.

  • Consistent paint thickness per manufacturer’s specs
  • More efficient application
  • Less chance of drips or runs
  • Easier color Transitions (light to dark no problem)
  • All areas of the house get exactly the same consistent coverage

Spray & Backroll

Spray the paint for efficient application and then immediately roll over (backroll) to, in theory, push it into small openings. While backrolling can fill small gaps, it also creates uneven film thickness in the paint – think of rolling a red dining room with white paint.

Uneven paint film thickness means uneven paint performance.

On a breezy Rhode Island summer day the paint can easily “skin over” before it is backrolled, especially if the person rolling is busy moving ladders and drop cloths.

Drawbacks to Backrolling

  • Slower
  • Widely varying paint thickness
  • Timing is critical
  • Weather is a factor
  • “Easy” areas get backrolled, “hard” areas don’t
  • Unnecessary multiple existing coats
  • Pointless on smoother surface

There are several factors that make backrolling more of a challenge – timing and weather top the list. With questionable benefits and difficult execution, Happy Trees Painting falls squarely in the “spray only” camp. Give us a call and we’ll show you the difference it’ll make on your home

A helpful illustrated guide to Storing paint in Rhode island

3 Steps to Proper Paint Storage

The leftover (latex) paint in your basement will, sooner or later, become a disposal problem. Here’s how to make sure your next can of paint remains in usable condition.

As a general rule of thumb, if a can of paint is less than one third full it is not worth storing – leave the lid off and let it dry completely. Then, leave it out with your household trash – dry paint is considered disposable household trash.

Important to note: liquid paint is considered hazardous waste and must be disposed of accordingly – the Jackson County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal facility is a great option.

Paint should always be stored indoors so that it can not freeze. If it has ever frozen, it is now toast.  A good test for frozen paint: stir it. Stir-able paint should be OK, if it feels like a brick it’s probably been frozen.

The How’s

  1. Cover the opening of the can with plastic wrap
  2. Put the lid on securely
  3. Store the can upside down

The Why’s

Plastic wrap will keep paint out of the “gutter” at the top of the can and will keep paint from drying on the lid. It’s best to plan ahead: as soon as you open the can that will likely be leftover, wash the lid and use a pour spout to keep the gutter clean. Plastic wrap will also keep the lid from contacting the can where corrosion can start. See the photo.

Now, before the lid goes on us committed Paint Geeks will exhale long and slow into the can. This will displace oxygen (dries paint) with CO2 (not so much).

Now, the lid – securely. Thumb-pressing is adequate; hammering is excessive and will usually damage the seal.

Finally, upside down storage means the paint in the can seals the lid, making premature drying that much less likely.

Industry experts acknowledge that just about 0% of the paint stored in your basement is likely to ever see the light of day, so the whole storage thing may be a triumph of Hope over Reason. At least now you’ve got reason to hope that your paint will remain in usable condition.

Still not sure if it’s usable? Give us a call – we’d be happy to take a look.

A helpful illustrated guide to choosing a Rhode island painting company

Compare Painting Bids

Cover these points with each painter you interview – you’ll soon have a good idea who will provide the work you’re after.

Prep Work Is Critical

The single most important part of a quality paint job. Some homes require more prep time than painting time. A careful, methodical and systematic approach will maximize the performance benefits of high quality materials. Will they pressure wash to clean dirt, or also to remove paint (spray tip and technique matter)?

Use backer rod for large gaps (good), or just fill with caulk (bad)? Use sharp scrapers or dull putty knives to remove paint? Attention to detail is essential to the final result. Most homeowners won’t know about shortcuts taken with tedious prep work until well after their check has been cashed.

Material Quality

Closely supervised, experienced painters will always deliver a better job than unsupervised, inexperienced workers.

Every paint manufacturer makes a range of products – from very high quality to very low price. A painter should be able to explain which product he uses, where it falls in the product line and just what the difference is beyond “it’s a better quality product”. This is true for primer and caulk as well. Cheap caulk dries out and pulls loose, cheap primer is watery because it has fewer solids. Understand what you’re paying for and verify that is what you get.

Included Or Not?

Materials are often not included. This is a huge unknown for the homeowner – no incentive for the painter to eliminate waste or estimate paint quantities accurately.

Workman’s comp insurance is required by law; liability insurance is required by common sense. Some painters have neither.

A low materials estimate makes the bid looks better; accurate materials estimates do not. Proposals that include the cost of materials bet on the painters’ expertise and give the homeowner a better view of their final cost.

The Deal Breaker

Workman’s compensation insurance is required by law; liability insurance is required by common sense. Some painters have neither. No homeowner wants an uninsured worker slipping off a high ladder. Make sure your painter can document that he and his employees are properly insured – a certificate of insurance issued for your specific project at your specific address is routine for commercial insurance carriers. Subcontractors? Each individual worker needs to have his own current, up to date certificate.

Top-Notch Work

Closely supervised, experienced painters will always deliver a better job than unsupervised, inexperienced workers. Proper attire (painters “whites”) is an easy gauge of the level of professionalism. An agreement that eliminates assumptions about the type of work to be done and a supervisor that clearly communicates with his crew and the homeowner will ensure that all expectations are met.

Long-Term Commitment?

A professional crew can paint most houses in less than 2 weeks. If you’ve hired a crew of one, or they work a “flexible” schedule, they may be a part of your life for quite a bit longer. Great if you don’t mind them using your bathroom, but most homeowners want to get the whole thing over with sooner rather than later. At the other end of the spectrum are the “blow and go” or “quick change” artists – quick prep, quick spray, collect the check and outta here. If that’s what you’re paying for, OK, but not so good if you’re paying for a top-notch job.

Extras

A Porta-Potty is a thoughtful touch that most painters don’t consider (easier to sneak behind the garage). Trash bags for daily pick-up, no blaring music, no foul language, professional attire, tarps on the driveway prevent permanent reminders of your paint project – these small details do make a difference.

A helpful illustrated guide to paint colors and how they change

We transformed the inside of a nice providence home and the homeowner ran into exactly what’s described here: colors that on one wall or time of day looked completely different than another. The homeowner was surprised, but Debby Zimmer at Paint Quality Institute explains what’s going on:

“Deep, highly saturated shades have been popular for years, but the palette that’s in vogue right now is just the opposite. Interior designers and colorists are favoring lighter hues that just tease the eye with subtle hints of color.

During the daytime, a wall color might appear to be in the pale green family, but at night, under artificial light, it may take on a yellow caste.

Vaguely reminiscent of the “pastels” of yesteryear, the light colors that are gaining popularity today are more sophisticated ensembles, often marrying three or more different hues to create soft color that is often hard to put a name to. Layering color in this way also produces some interesting visual effects.

Because the new tints are so changeable under different lighting conditions, a useful recommendation is to apply some sizable swatches of the paint color to several of your walls and live with them for a day or two before fully committing to the color.

Because the new tints are not pure yellows, greens, or whatever, many have a chameleon-like quality, shifting their appearance slightly when the light changes.

During the daytime, a wall color might appear to be in the pale green family, but at night, under artificial light, it may take on a yellow caste. Likewise, a light bluish tint might gravitate toward pale gray in dimmer light.

Because the new tints are so changeable under different lighting conditions, a useful recommendation is to apply some sizable swatches of the paint color to several of your walls and live with them for a day or two before fully committing to the color. That way, you can be sure you’ll like your new choice at every time of day or night.

The emerging trend to tints is part of the natural ebb and flow that occurs in the paint industry every five years or so, and this stage of the cycle offers some tangible rewards to those who jump on board.

For one thing, repainting walls, ceilings and woodwork in lighter-colored paint tends to “open up” the area, making any room seem more spacious.

Perhaps even more important is the psychological benefit that comes with a lighter indoor environment. Brighter surroundings can lift our spirits, no matter what the color. And soft tints derived from certain color families – green and blue, for example – have a restful quality that can be restorative after a stressful day.

If you’re truly serious about doing some interior painting, there’s no time like the present. Adding some light new paint color is the perfect antidote to winter’s shorter days and gloomier weather. You’ll be right in step with the latest trend in interior painting, and you’ll find 2016 to be a far brighter new year!”

A illustrated guide to picking a painter in Rhode island

 1. CHOOSE A PAINTER WITH EXPERIENCE.

Whether you believe in Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 Hours philosophy or not, more time working on a craft usually leads to better technical skills, increased knowledge levels, and most importantly, a longer list of all the mistakes you shouldn’t make. While experience isn’t everything, it’s important to keep in mind when choosing a painter. You wouldn’t want a rookie tackling your $10,000 painting project, would you?

Years of experience, positive online reviews, and a photo galley of painting work are three things that should be at the top of your wishlist when choosing a painter. It means your painters are smart enough and talented enough to keep a client base and stand the test of time.

2. CHOOSE A PAINTER WITH PROPER LEGAL LICENSES AND INSURANCE.

You’re not hiring a true professional painter if they don’t have a state-issued license, workers’ compensation insurance, and general liability insurance. These credentials prove that your painter is qualified for the job, and that they can protect their employees and your home if something were to go wrong on the job.

Actions speak louder than words on this front. Your painter can tell you they carry insurance, but if they truly have insurance, they’ll have no problem showing the proper documentation to you. They won’t blow you off, and they certainly won’t tell you they “can’t seem to find” the documents at the moment. If a painter pulls any of these tricks on you, it’s time to find a new one.

3. Choose a painting company that does the prep work

Prep work is what separates a good paint job from a great one. By sanding, stripping, cleaning, priming, and taping, your painters are setting the stage for a coat of paint that has clean lines and stands up to the elements.

Unfortunately, not all painting contractors take the time and effort to prep for a great paint job. They’d rather cut corners so they can charge the same price and get the job done quicker. This can lead to a paint job that is uneven, rough around the edges, or susceptible to premature aging.

Not sure if a painting company does all the right prep work? Ask them. A good painting  company will know their prep work processes inside and out, and they won’t hesitate to list of them off to you if you put them on the spot.

4. CHOOSE A PAINTER WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE.

If your dentist couldn’t answer basic questions about oral health or dental work, you’d sprint out of that office before they picked up a dental tool. So why would trust a painter if they didn’t have the knowledge to get the job done right?

There’s nothing wrong with vetting a painter before hiring them. Ask them plenty of specific and theoretical questions about painting techniques, the best paint for your home, and how they take care of blemishes in current paint jobs. Their answers will give you an idea of their level of expertise, which is much more valuable than claims and ad copy on their website.

5. CHOOSE A PAINTING CONTRACTOR WITH A REASONABLE (NOT LOW) PRICE.

There’s a sweet spot when it comes to the price of hiring a painter. Some painters will use the cheapest paints, inexperienced employees, and lightning-fast painting techniques so they can offer the most affordable service possible — and if this is the route you choose, you’ll definitely get what you pay for. Other painters will charge exorbitant prices under the mask of “luxury painting services” or “the best painting products in the industry.” While using high-quality paints is important, there’s nothing luxurious about professional painting. We all put our pants on one leg at a time, and we put our paints on one coat at a time. Ultimately, the final product you get from a luxury painter won’t justify the cost.

The best option for any homeowner lies somewhere in between: a painter that uses high-quality products and standard painting services for a reasonable, mid-range price. You’ll avoid the cost cutters and the price gougers, and you’ll end up with a great paint job when it’s all said and done.

6. CHOOSE A PAINTER WITH QUALITY GUARANTEES.

Does your painter offer some sort of quality guarantee or warranty that’s backed by the company itself or the paint manufacturer? If not, you’re setting yourself up for headaches in the future. The best painting companies have hassle-free warranties, meaning they’ll come out and take care of any problems you’re having without a fuss. It’s excellent customer service that transcends any sort of warranty.

7. CHOOSE LOCAL PAINTERS WITH A SOLID ONLINE REPUTATION.

It’s important to look at online reviews and overall business ratings with a careful, even skeptical, eye. Consumers are more likely to leave to leave negative reviews to relieve some frustrations than they would be to praise companies with positive reviews — it makes consumers sound ungrateful, but it’s true.

Don’t worry if a painting company is lacking the perfect, five-star rating you desire. There will always be people leaving negative reviews. However, if you notice a series of negative reviews that allude to a certain pattern of behavior, it might be best to move on to the next painter on your list.

8. CHOOSE A PAINTER WITH EXPERIENCE IN Rhode island.

Travelling painters will go to the ends of the earth for an expensive paint job — they’re more concerned with making money or boosting profits, and less with fixing mistakes or providing excellent customer service. For the best paint job possible, you need a painter who has serviced your area for years — someone who cares about making your community a better place to be.
